What are the WITH(e)R CUP rules?
Dates of competition: The WITH(e)R CUP runs from November 1st to February 28 or 29th, whatever the case may be. There is no required start date. You can start logging your commutes at any time within the current WITH(e)R season.
Who can participate: Any employee of Synapse or Cambridge Consultants (staff, contract, or intern) on all Global sites and offices.
Entering Rides
There are two ways to enter your rides:
To win:
Your commute:
Diversions: You can’t do a 10 mile diversion and call it part of your commute. If your commute happens to have a detour in it so you can get some extra exercise, like the much feared/loved//hated Bike-Run-Bike, you still get credit for commuting in, but only in the amount of your regular commute.
Exceptions are permissible on a case by case basis for detours needed to avoid construction and/or "dangerous streets." Contact the Adjudicator for a ruling. Having photo evidence of an unsafe street is strongly recommended. Expectation for a detour is under a mile of added distance. Contact the Arbiter for a ruling if its over a mile.
Hybrid commute: If you drive or bus part-way then bike or run or walk the rest, you get credit for whatever part you did under your own power.
Assisted propulsion is allowed. However, propulsion replacement (no human effort) is not at any time.
Example: Synapse employee "R" has an gonzo electric bike with a motor, but it's not electric assist, and it has a throttle. On the way into work, R's commute is flat expect for one steep downhill section. R's electric propulsion is turned off for the entire ride in. For the ride home, R only uses the electric motor to power up to the top of a steep hill. R can log the miles for the ride in, but not the ride home. Sorry Redwood, I mean "R."
WITH(e)R commutes are generally restricted to weekdays. Exceptions:
MOST IMPORTANT RULE: Entries go by the honor system, especially for weather points. Cheating is for jerks, so don't do it. Report any such scum to the dedicated volunteers in The Office of Arbitrary Arbitration.
